MY FAVORITE TABLE FROM TEMPLECON 2009

This Khador themed table was hands down my favorite table to play on during Eternal War at TempleCon 2009. The watch towers were very cool. And I really liked the water feature with the footbridge over the top.

GUTS & GEARS AND ETERNAL WAR

TempleCon 2009 kicked off with Eternal War Open Gaming and the Guts & Gears tourney.

Hugh was running the event, and I was helping to make rules calls and acted as a Ringer for odd people out. We needed 19 tables to accomidate the players for the tourney, so that was cool. We ended up playing 5 rounds to come up with a top three list of winners. During the first round, Dan (Biggie) wandered over with a box and that's when I got to check out the cool new Trophies. They are surprisingly heavy, and very nice.

We had a lot of people sign up for Eternal War. Throughout the convention 24/7 you can seek out another player who is wearing a Eternal War button. If you win a game of Eternal War, you earn a ticket. The ticket is placed in a box, and if your name is drawn out of the box you get to play Dan (Biggie) at the Quartermaster Challenege table. The person who scores the best win overall against Biggie will be getting a very cool prize. (Yes, I've seen it but no I can't tell you what it is. You'll have to wait!)

FROM PA TO RHODE ISLAND: TEMPLECON 2009

(Below) On the road in PA. We started off from Pottstown, PA in the late afternoon. The weather was awesome. Perfect driving conditions.

(Below) Rest Stop in New Jersey. Driving break #1 got us most of the way through Kersey before the sun set.

Sloooooow traffic in New York ... grrrr ..... we lost about an hour and a half in driving time with the sloooooow traffic in New York. Seriously, we were hit by Temporial Barrier or something.

Rest Stop in Connecticut. Only about 60 miles out, we stopped the last time. The weather was 13 degrees but still awesome driving weather. Amazing.

(Below) Yay, Rhode Island! We arrived a little after 9pm so that means it took us about 5 1/2 hours with the pit stops. Not bad considering we got hit with TB in New York.

And the TempleCon fun starts at 7:30 AM for the Pressganger Breakfast.
I better get some sleep!

READY FOR TEMPLECON

I finally sat down and finished painting my Long Gunners and Trenchers.
While I was at it I got my second Lancer finished as well.

That leaves me with Thorn, a Grenadier, and Ol' Rowdy to paint before Wednesday.
Hey ... I better get back to painting.

See you at TempleCon 2009!

IMPORTANT TEMPLECON NEWS

The restaurant (McCormick & Schmick’s) has a special bar menu that runs from 3:30 pm to 6 pm and again later in the night that includes $1.95 dishes (huge cheeseburgers, plates of wings, spiced rice balls, etc.) if you buy a drink.

The Press Gang will plan event breaks accordingly. Last year they ran out of french fries by the end of the convention. We hope to do more damage this year. It's good food very cheap, but there are other dining options around if you want variety.

ETERNAL WAR AT TEMPLECON

Eternal War is pretty cool, and unique to TempleCon. In short, it's a semi-casual play format that runs all weekend on a set of themed terrain. It allows players to grab games of Warmachine and Hordes with other players on demand, and further their conquests all weekend to rack up wins and special objectives. There's a bit more to it than that which is described in the early posted miniatures schedule which is going up soon, but suffice it to say that it's a lot of fun for those who are learning the game, or just don't feel like scheduling their weekend around the big tournaments. Heck, who doesn't want to play semi-casual games and have a chance to win cool prizes?

Eternal War
Friday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 8. Register any time during the convention starting as early as 10am on Friday. This open play event runs continually (24 hours a day) throughout the entire convention until 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Yes, that’s 54 hours of gaming if you can do it!
Eternal War is an “open play” mixed event that turns your friendly games on the Eternal War tables during TempleCon into credit towards qualifying for the Championships on Sunday (top WM player and HORDES player).
We hope that this provides an enjoyable alternative for players that would like to compete for the big trophies, but do not want to be in tournaments all weekend. Additionally, there will be a separate prize pool for Eternal War players this year for those that do not participate in the events on Sunday - so be sure that you are playing Eternal War until the bitter end! More details on the format will be coming soon, but the short of it is to bring three lists - one each for 500pts, 750pts, and 1,000pts (you don’t have to have all points sizes if you don’t want to, but you may be limiting the number of players you can play against) and be ready to meet new players with pickup games. As you play other eternal war players you'll record your results rather like a league.
---
If you register to participate in Eternal War, you'll get a nifty 3" button that will identify you are a person who is looking to play pick up games with other Eternal War players.

DO IT BEFORE JAN 15th

If you're going to TEMPLECON 2009 and want to pre-register ... do so by Jan 15th.
TempleCon offers single day, full weekend, and group registration options for pre-registration. In addition, they also feature the Mercury Pass program that allows you to register online and get your badge mailed to you before the convention for an additional $4.50, so you waste no time in getting to the action. Pre-registration is slated to close on January, 15th 2009, so don't hesitate.
Pre-registering also allows you to register for individual events at TempleCon, as we don't charge any per-event ticket fees! One membership price gets you in to the convention and gives you access to everything going on.

EATING AT TEMPLECON

Everyone knows that WARMACHINE and HORDES are featured at TEMPLECON.
What you might not know is that many of the events will be scheduled around the bar menu featured at McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant. The restaurant offers a Bar Menu featuring select $1.95 menu items. So plan to take your break and chow down. I know at least one Press Ganger who will be heading over there on a Eternal War break!

TEMPLECON EVENTS

Bring a 500pt army for WARMACHINE or HORDES (mixed event) that must include one warlock/warcaster, no more than one solo, no more than one unit, no more than one unit attachment, and as many warjacks/warbeasts as you like. The top WARMACHINE player and top HORDES player from this event will be qualified for the Championships on Sunday. There will be other prizes specific to this tournament as well. Limit of 64 players so pre-register on the TempleCon web site.
Eternal War – Friday, Feb. 6 through Sunday, Feb. 8. Register any time during the convention starting as early as 10am on Friday. This open play event runs continually (24 hours a day) throughout the entire convention until 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Yes, that’s 54 hours of gaming if you can do it! As you play other eternal war players you'll record your results rather like a league. Who knows, you might even get a chance to play a game against one of the staffers from Privateer Press….
Midnight Madness – Friday, Feb. 6 into Sat. Feb. 7. Registration starts at 10pm on Friday, first game at 11pm. You loved the insanity last year so come ready to throw down all night again this year. This is a mixed WARMACHINE and HORDES event using 750pt armies. Bring 2 lists for a tournament using Steamroller 4 scenarios and special rules, but be ready to win some fun extra prizes over the evening too. The top WARMACHINE player and the top HORDES player from this event will be qualified for the Championship on Sunday. There will be special prizes awarded each round of the tournament to the first WARMACHINE and HORDES player to complete the announced achievement - but beware some of these achievements may greatly reduce your chances of winning the match! Limit of 64 players so pre-register on the TempleCon web site.

Saturday, February 7
HARDCORE – Registration starts at 9am, first game starts at 10am. What more can we say? This is HARDCORE! Bring a single 750pt army of your favorite faction (it’s mixed HORDES and WARMACHINE this year so you wilder types aren’t left out) and come play some straight up kill the warcaster/warlock. All models must be fully painted to participate in this event and turns will be timed at 7 minutes per player. In addition to medals for fastest kill, most victory points killed, best painted, and best overall; the top WARMACHINE player and top HORDES player from this event will be qualified for the Championship on Sunday. Limit of 64 players so pre-register on the TempleCon web site.
Monsterpocalypse: Trashing Rhode Island – Registration 10am, first game at 11am. We’re bringing the big monsters to the biggest gaming event in the northeast. This is your chance to battle it out for cool prizes and bragging rights of winning the first TempleCon Monsterpocalypse event. This is a constructed tournament using swiss pairing. Bring a single monster (in both alpha and hyper forms), up to 15 units, up to 12 buildings, a play mat/map, dice set, and life tracker to compete. There is a limit of 16 players in this event so be sure to pre-register on the TempleCon web site.
‘Jacks and ‘Beasts Never Rest – Saturday, Feb. 7 into Sunday, Feb. 8. Registration starts at 11pm, first game starts at midnight. Just in case you haven’t had enough gaming, we’ve got something a little lighter for you to pass the night away. Bring a single list (WARMACHINE or HORDES but all models from the same faction as normal) to this mixed event totaling 750points. Here’s the catch, your list must have 2 warlocks/warcasters in it and nothing but warjacks or warbeasts. This will be a night of straight-up kill the other guy in a Mangled Metal format (kill both warcasters/locks or all warjacks/beasts and you win). Please note that warcasters must be assigned at least one warjack to control. We'll have some cool prizes to give away for those who can go without sleep. Limit of 64 players so pre-register on the TempleCon web site.
Sunday, February 8
The Championships – Registration starts at 9am, first game starts at 10am. This is the big one. The top 4 HORDES players and top 4 WARMACHINE players selected from the previous events of the weekend will battle it out in a modified 500pt Steamroller 4 format (we’ll use chess clocks to time things) mixed tournament to see who is the top dog. Can you add your name to the roll call of champions already inscribed on the TempleCon trophy?
Eternal War Prizes - You didn't forget about Eternal War, did you? At 4pm Sunday afternoon we will collect all remaining Eternal War record sheets (you can turn them in early if you want, but where's the fun in that) to calculate winners. At 5pm during the awarding of the overall HORDES and WARMACHINE champions from the Championships, we'll award special Eternal War prizes to top players.
So, there you have it. Looking at the schedule, if you take out Eternal War we've left you 6 hours total during the course of the convention during which there isn't at least one organized play event going on. I'm sure you can find a pickup game or three to fill those spaces. Also, don't forget that we have lots of resources for casual players including open "generic" tables with standard terrain set up as well as special tables with elaborate set piece terrain and specific fun scenarios to play.

PLANNING FOR TEMPLE OF STEAM TOUR

....
We are currently in the planning phase for a Temple of Steam tour event to be held in early January at Gatehouse Games in Duncansville, PA.
TempleCon staff, Pressgangers, and Privateer Press fans will converge to get a sneak peek of the TempleCon 2009 convention during the event.
The goal of these events is to bring a little bit of TempleCon style to gaming stores and conventions, and allow TempleCon staff to personally meet and game with all the folks who make TempleCon possible.
The Grand Prize will be certificates that give them a full weekend's admission to TempleCon 2009 on the house.

TIME TO MAKE TEMPLECON PLANS

There's a thread on the Privateer Press forums that deals with TempleCon and making plans for this year's big convention. Read it here.
