We played a 666 point Frankenstein Format tournament at WHATEVER!! in the DuBois Mall.

Here is a movie from the event.

Players were able to make 666 point lists without having to follow the standard army building restrictions for factions. The combinations were mind blowing. Justin's EPIC VLAD list won in the end, using the following:

GREAT LAKES REGION ADVENTURE

Sunday we were back in the saddle again. Megan and I felt like getting out of town so we decided to head towards the Great Lakes Region. We loaded up Bob the Beagle and hit th road. We started out by taking in the scenery along I-80. The leaves are starting to turn, and the views were great. Then we stopped by Kraynak's in Hermitage, PA. For over 50 years, visitors from around the world have come to find the finest seasonal decorations, gifts, toys, floral arrangements, and plants. It was pretty hot and humid in the store, and I'm not sure why they didn't have the air conditioning on. We didn't stay long, however I did pick up a Lemax Mill Pond and eyed up some of the Department 56 stuff that was 50% off. From there we went over to the Shenango Valley Mall but we decided it was too hot outside to leave Bob in the car so we decided against mall shopping. So we hit up our handy dandy Tom Tom and located a nearby Michaels Craft Store, mainly because Megan had a 20% off coupon she was eager to use. We hit the road again and drove over to Niles, Ohio. I used to live there something like ten years ago, so it was interesting to visit again. We did a little shopping there, grabbed a bite to eat, and headed home. All in all it was a good roadtrip.

THE ADVENTURER'S GUILD

During our trip to Ocean City, MD we took a small break to visit the Adventurer's Guild in Harrisburgh, PA. I picked up a blister pack and got a short chance to flip through the Legends book. I had an excellent discussion with Rich Ditzler from the store, and we discussed how we might be able to network the gaming comunities between DuBois and Harrisburgh. He said it might be possible that their group of guys could drive out to the DuBois area for an event and then the next event would be in Harrisburgh where the DuBois guys could drive out there. I explained that we were already doing that with the Greensburg, Grove City, and Pittsburgh area stores. So it appears that the gaming community just got a little larger for shared venues and events. Sounds good to me! My visit to the Adventurer's Guild was great. I hung out talking with some of the locals who were in the store for gaming and painting for almost an hour. At that point, Megan told me it was time to get back on the street heading towards Ocean City. MD.

Megan and I visited THE VAULT in Greensburg, PA. The store is new and they are having their grand opening on July 19th, 2008. They are featuring a STEAMROLLER TOURNAMENT during their Grand Opening. (Info here.) They have a good collection of models for a newer store, and they are willing to place pre-orders and special orders to make their customers happy. And yes, they offer No Quarter magazine. They currently running Call to Arms with a good player base. They are planning on hosting Legends Lagacies and Summer Rampage. (When you are in ask to see their super-sized map!) And they are excited about future tournaments, including a possibkle future battlebox tournament. Every month, on the first Saturday, the store offers "All Night Gaming" which apparently is a free-for-all of gamers bringing in their favorite game and playing until the wee hours of the morning. I sense good things in the future for this store.

I give The Vault two big thumbs up!

VISITING HOBBY EXPRESS INC.

1713 RT228 ST L1
Cranberry TWP, PA 16066
USA

I visited Hobby Express. The store is easy to find, and there is ample parking. The store exterior is attractive and looks professional. Upon entering, I was greeted almost immediately by two members of staff who offered to help me. They were friendly but not pushy ... and I liked that. I wandered around a little and was impressed right away. They have a lot of cool toys, games, and models in the store. They also carry a nice range of RPG and miniature gaming supplies.

In the far left back corner of the store, I located my prey. I had to giggle because the Privateer Press stuff butted up right against all the Games Workshop stuff as if they were all one game. I was amused to see that a shopper would have to walk past the WARMACHINE & HORDES miniatures to get to the Games Workshop stuff. The space the miniatures were displayed in was kind of tight. I had to squeeze into a tiny space. I am a large mammal, and I make no bones about that. I wasn't upset about this though, and actually found it very amusing. No problems though, because there's a lot of stuff in that store and that's not a bad thing!

The selection of WARMACHINE, HORDES, & IRON KINGDOMS product was impressive. They also had a good selection of NO QUARTER back issues. I picked up #17 and #18. They still have issues #3 to #16 available if you need a back issue.

While I was browsing, another helpful member of staff greeted me and asked me if she could help. She was friendly and approachable, but not pushy .. and again, I like that.

On checking out, I inquired about the WARMACHINE & HORDES scene in the store and area. The gentleman at the register admitted that he didn't know a whole lot about the miniature gaming scene in the area. He said that he knew a lot of customers buy the models and the magazines.
The down side is that the store doesn't have any space for in-store gaming.

All in all the visit was great, and I recommend stopping by and checking out the store. But bring some money with you because they have so much cool stuff you're going to need it!

HOBBY UNIVERSE

4427 West 26th Street
Erie, PA 16506

They sell Model Railroad scenery and supplies, as well as scale model military sets. The staf said that they have a lot of customers who ask about WARMACHINE and HORDES so they have been thinking about starting to carry the miniatures. So if you are in the area (or even if you are just visiting) stop on by and ask them about Privateer Press products. Maybe we can have yet another store to add to the gaming community!
