FORTIFY

In a situation where a Heavy Warjack (Ironclad) is Slammed into another Heavy 'Jack (Centurian) that has Fortify cast on it, the following happens: Both 'Jacks take damage, Centurian is not knocked down due to Fortify, and the Ironclad would not be knocked down either because at the moment that the Ironclad's movement would end, Fortify would kick in and prevent it from being Knocked Down.

STEELHEADS + IMPACT HITS + FLANK

Steelhead cavalry making impact attacks on targets within melee range of a halberdier get the flank bonus to the impact attacks.

PUSHED vs. MOVED

Models that are Pushed (rather than moved) do not suffer free strikes, as part of the definition of the term on page 41 of Remix.

FIRE BEACON

Lynch's Fire Beacon is not deployed using his Magelock Pistol, thus you may not combine it an Arcane Effect.

1/5/09

SNIPE AND THE BLACK 13TH

If The Black 13th has Snipe placed on them it will not affect "Fire Beacon" as it is a ranged attack not a ranged weapon.

BLOOD FRENZY AND COLLATERAL DAMAGE

A little while ago there was a question raised questioning if the Butcher' feat would boost damage from a mortar shot. This recently brought up the question of Collateral Damage. However, Blood Frenzy will not boost damage from Collateral Damage.

DID YOU KNOW?

When Epic Caine uses True Shot it makes his ranged attacks into magic attacks, thus he will not benefit from Range Amplifier. Range Amplifier only affects spells, not magic attacks. Range Amplifier will have no effect.

DID YOU KNOW?

You can read here what Battle College has to say about the Thunderhead.
And you can read what Gearbox has to say in Boot Camp right here.

BLACK 13: LYNCH'S FIRE BEACON

It's a RNG 12 AOE 5 attack. You target a model. If you hit, center a 5" AOE on the model. If you miss, it deviates as any other AOE attack, and you center a 5" AOE on where ever the attack deviates to. Either way, the AOE stays in play for 1 round, and while within the AOE models do not benefit from the listed abilities.

MUTAGENESIS AND GUDRUN

Mutagenesis' replacement is triggered when Thagrosh destroys a model with the spell, and so Gudrun's Hangover ability will trigger first (at sufficient damage to be destroyed) and prevent it. It would work as normal after Hangover is spent.

HOLD SCENARIOS

Some scenarios require that a model hold a location in order to win.
A player can hold a location if he controls all within the space described during his Maintenance Phase. Models engaged in melee cannot hold a location.
Sometimes an Incorporeal model can hold a location and sometimes it cannot. In Steamroller 4, am Incorporeal Model can hold a location however in the Evoultion Theater of War scenarios it cannot. The scenario rules will clarify if it can or cannot.

COUNTERING IDRIANS

OK, we know that Idirans can do nice things with Intercept, including running to engage the rest of the unit that triggered the Intercept, causing the enemy to take freestrikes to regain formation.

Now someone has done a nice counter to that technique.

Situation: Enemy unit actives and receives charge order. First trooper charges my Idrians and triggers Intercept. My Idrians run up to the enemy and engage them all, keeping unit formation with my Idrian that cannot Intercept because he is engaged. The enemy trooper that charged me is not in formation with the rest of his unit and my opponent somehow has to maintain formation.

So far so good, this is the normal Intercept shenanigans.

Now my opponent does the following. He activates the other troopers one by one and does not move them, instead "charging" the Idrian in front of him. The last two troopers then try to recreate formation by running. They die to freestrikes. No more troopers to move so he commences with attacking. The out of formation trooper has to make a command check, the other beat the crap out of my Idrians. So basically his "trick" is to try to regain formation at the END of his troopers' activations.

So, this a legal counter to the "Idrians make you take freestrikes" trick.

Use it.

LIVING, NOT LIVING

The Feralgeist's SPIRITBIND rule says "While controlled by the Feralgeist, the warbeast is not a living model."
---
(Not undead, please note ... simply "not living.")

FERALGEIST AND INCORPOREAL

Honest to the God, the Feralgeist drives me batty.
It probably shouldn't ... but ... it does.
It's been on the List for awhile.
It was a hot topic of email conversation before the GO WILD! event.
And recently I was privy to a situation that I never considered.
So, as I am in the habit of doing ... I will share.
---
The Feralgeist is always incorporeal. You kill it with magic attacks, animi, spells, feats or attacks that have the ability to damage models only affected by magic attacks. The Feralgeist remains Incorporeal at all times unless a special rule causes it to lose its special ability. (Example is to think of a model having or losing Pathfinder.) Pistol Wraiths, Machine Wraiths and Feralgeist all become corporeal when they
make attacks. The bad news is that the Feralgeist does not make attacks. The
Machine Wraith turns corporeal when he leaves a warjack. That is according to
Melding. The bad news is that Feralgeist does not have Melding. Spirit Bind says
nothing about turning corporeal when it leaves a beast. So it's always Incorporeal unless a special external rule causes it to stop being so.
---
Thanks to the Infernals for bringing this to our attention. Never really considered this.

Krueger the Stormwrath

On the round in which Kruegar pops his feat and deploys the AOEs, they count as magic attacks. For subsequent rounds, they are simply damaging effects, and not magic attacks.

From the FAQ:

Erratum: Primal p.107 : Storm Ravager: Replace with the following: Place three 3" AOEs anywhere completely within Krueger's control area. Target each enemy model in one or more of the AOEs with a magic attack ignoring Camouflage, concealment, cover, elevation, Invisibility, LOS, screening, and Stealth. Models hit suffer simultaneous POW 10 damage rolls. At the beginning of each of Krueger’s controller’s Maintenance Phases, Storm Ravager AOEs not completely within Krueger’s control area expire. Krueger's controller then removes one of the Storm Ravager AOEs from the table. He may then move the remaining AOEs in his control area up to 6". AOEs must end this movement completely within Krueger’s control area. Enemy models touched by one or more moving AOEs suffer simultaneous unboostable POW 10 damage rolls after all the AOEs have moved. An enemy model entering into or ending its activation in one or more Storm Ravager AOEs suffers an unboostable POW 10 damage roll. An enemy warbeast in one or more AOEs during its controller's Maintenance Phase must pass a threshold check or frenzy. If Krueger is destroyed or removed from play, the AOEs immediately expire.

WHY WE LOVE (OR HATE) THE COMBINE

Example follows ...

A unit of idrian skirmisher make their intercept move. After that, the overlords made -2 for command checks cumulative so the unit has -6 on command checks.

Denegra then casts Dark Seduction on the idrians.

Next round: The wither shadow combine upkeeps one spel, dark seduction, so the complete Idrian Skirmishers (all 12) play for Cryx.

TACTIC, COHORT, and ELITE CADRE

Some models have abilities referred to as "Tactics."
Some players out there seem to think if they kill off the model granting the "Tactic" then the "Tactic" goes away.
These players are wrong.
Tactics are permanently granted to the affected models. When the model with the Tactic rule is removed from the unit, the unit does not lose the ability. The same applies to Cohort and Elite Cadre.

Bombards & Power Attacks

There are some threads about the Behemoth making Power Attacks and Bombard attacks. Be aware that this is one of those tricky situations due to the fact that FAQ takes precedence over any rules forum rulings in a tournament. Although there has been no official update of the FAQ as of this date, the following thread contains the correct information. There has been no change to the FAQ, but the most recent thread is correct.

NERF SWARMS WITH CIRCLE

Kromac casts Brutality on a unit of Tharn Wolf Riders which gives them +2 mat and beserk. The wolf riders are spead out across the board because they have howl. They declare a hunt against an enemy unit of infantry, let's say something squishy like Mcthrall. The declare a charge across rough terrain because of pathfinder, and don't need line of sight becuase of Scent. They begin their attack now with +4 to attack and +2 damage. First wolfrider destroys enemy model, moves 3" because of Blood Thirst and attacks again. Wash rinse and repeat. Oh, and they ignore free strikes because they are light cavalry. This first model single-handedly destroys a complete unit of infanty, they declare a new hunt and wolf rider #2 can start over again against a new target.
Yum!
